Title: Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters and Seymour an Introduction
Author: J. D. Salinger
Type: Fiction
Page Count/Review Word Count: 160
Rating: 3.5/5
Given that this is basically two different short stories/novellas, I should probably tackle each of them in turn. However, they are interlinked, and I guess they also tie in with Frannie and Zooey, which I haven’t read yet.
In Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters, our protagonist goes to his brother’s wedding, only to find that the groom seems to have stood his bride up at the altar. He shares an awkward taxi ride with the bride’s family and then takes them back to his apartment.
Seymour: An Introduction is all about the brother, who was a poet of sorts. It’s a more difficult read but rewarding if you can get through it. We’re talking about long paragraphs that spread across multiple pages.
